Current Style Number Plates

Current Style number plates are the present type or "new style registrations" that are issued to new vehicles in Great Britain (since September 2001). The number plates consists of two letters, followed by two numbers and finally three letters at the end. The two numbers help to identify the age of the vehicle. (See sample registration below)

  • It is not possible to have a ‘new’ number plate on an ‘old’ car. The year identifier of the number plate cannot be newer than the year of the car’s date of registration. The 14 series of number plates were for cars registered between March 2014 and August 2014. These can transferred to vehicles registered in September 2014 but not in February 2014. It is important that you are aware of the compatible dates for current style number plates.
